A major stage personality noted for his incisive and provocative interpretations, baritone Louis Otey has
performed with leading theaters throughout the world.  Notable roles he has performed include the title
role in Don Giovanni with Houston Grand Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Connecticut Opera,
Indianapolis Opera, Opera Hamilton, Victoria State Opera in Australia and in Graz, Austria.  His Escamillo
in Carmen has been heard at Houston Grand Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Opera
Theatre of St. Louis and Connecticut Grand Opera.  He has portrayed Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di
Figaro in Lyon, Düsseldorf, Opera Hamilton, Calgary Opera, and with the Michigan Opera Theatre.  Mr.
Otey has performed Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, L=Opéra de
Montreal, New Orleans Opera, Florentine Opera, and with the Royal Opera House Covent Garden - a
performance that was televised worldwide and is available on video and laser disc.  A frequent leading
artist at New York City Opera, Mr. Otey has performed there as Scarpia in Tosca, Escamillo in Carmen,
the title role in Don Giovanni, Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, the Count in Le Nozze di Figaro and
Germont in a new production of La Traviata which became an Emmy award winning telecast.

Already this season, engagements have included Count di Luna in Il Trovatore with Portland Opera, a
return to New York City Opera as the title role in Rigoletto, and a return to the Metropolitan Opera as
Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus.  He recently made his Carnegie Hall debut as Antony in Antony and
Cleopatra. Upcoming engagements include Jokanaan in Salome with Connecticut Opera, Count di Luna
in Il Trovatore with Opera Pacific, Arthur in Le Roi Arthus at the Theatre de la Monnaie in Brussels,
Escamillo in a concert performance of Carmen and Scarpia in Tosca with the Israeli Philharmonic with
Zubin Mehta conducting and a return to the Metropolitan Opera as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly.

Recent engagements for Mr. Otey have included his Metropolitan Opera debut as Mr. Astley in
Prokofiev's The Gambler, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly with Dallas Opera, the Four Villains in Les
Contes d'Hoffmann with Fort Worth Opera, Otello for Opera Omaha, Renato in Un Ballo in Maschera with
Washington Opera, and the title role in Rigoletto with Opera Pacific and the New York City Opera.  
Previous engagements have included Bretigny in Manon with the San Francisco Opera, the Four Villains
in Les Contes d'Hoffmann with Houston Grand Opera, San Diego Opera and Opera Pacific, the world
premiere of Conquistador and Escamillo in Carmen with San Diego Opera, Scarpia in Tosca with Portland
Opera and Fort Worth Opera,  Danilo in The Merry Widow with Utah Opera, the title role in Don Giovanni
with New Orleans Opera, Cleveland Opera, and Connecticut Grand Opera, Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia
with Fort Worth Opera, Marcello in La Bohème with both Fort Worth and Dallas Opera, Belcore in L'Elisir
d'Amore with the Canadian Opera Company, the title role in Macbeth with Manitoba Opera, Germont in
La Traviata with Opera Pacific, Iago in Otello for the Opera Theatre of St. Louis and Cincinnati Opera,
and Renato in Un Ballo in Maschera for the Hawaii Opera Theatre.

Mr. Otey made his European debut as the title role in Eugene Onegin in Basel, where he returned to
perform Ford in Falstaff.  Additional European engagements have included Beatrice di Cenci in Geneva,
Nazarie in the world premiere of Louis de Pablo's La Señorita Cristina at the Teatro Real in Madrid, Iago
in Otello in Nantes, France and the Philosopher in Cherubin at L'Opéra de Monte Carlo.  Mr. Otey can be
heard as John Sorel in Menotti's The Consul with Chandos and on a recording of Tom Pasatieri's
adaptation of The Three Sisters. Louis Otey sang the role of Jokanaan in Salome for the Connecticut
Opera , the title role in Le Roi Arthus by Chausson with Le Theatre Royal de La Monnaie of Brussels. He
will sing the role of Fieramosca in Berlioz's Bevenuto Cellini  at the Metropolitan Opera House under the
direction of James Levine and also at the Metropolitan the Role of Sharpless in Madama Butterfly under
the direction of Placido Domingo. He will  next season interpret his first Der Fliegende Hollander  for the
Austin Lyric Opera and Scarpia in Tosca under the baton of Zubin Mehta.
